Surveys of anglers have shown that most people are introduced to fishing by a family member or a close friend. Those surveys also suggest that many anglers go fishing because it is such a great way to spend time with important people in their lives. Time with family often ranks as high or higher than catching fish as a motivation for going fishing. The survey results agree with my observations. But I can add that when a fishing trip includes catching fish, the results are almost always lots of smiles and fond memories. Fall is a great time to introduce a family member or friend to fly fishing and start making some of those memories.
