Welcome to the Jungle

Summer weather in the Ozarks is fairly predictable: hot and humid. To my friends who live in the arid western United States, I tell them its like living in a jungle. The landscape is green, the woods are a thick tangle of vegetation and they are full of insects. Yes, its like a jungle. But that “jungle” yields plenty of terrestrial food to the fish that live in our rivers. They fall out of trees, bushes or weeds, take flight and crash land in the water, or get blown or washed in during a thunderstorm. Stock your fly box with beetles, hoppers, cicadas, ants and any other juicy bug you can imagine. The fish are looking for them!
