Frequently Asked Questions
Below is the list of questions I’m most often asked. If you don’t see yours listed, or need more clarification, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
What’s included?
Fly rods, reels, lines, leaders, tippets, and flies are available or you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Bottled water will be provided on all trips, and lunch will be provided for full day trips.
How long are the trips?
1/2 Day trips are typically between 4-5 hrs
Full Day trips are typically between 7-9 hrs
What streams will we be fishing?
Trips can be taken on any of the following waters:
Meramec River
Niangua River
Westover Spring and Dry Creek
What should I bring?
Weather appropriate jackets and rain gear, a hat and sunglasses (polarized if possible), sunscreen. Waders are great, but not essential. In hot weather, I normally wear wading boots and quick dry pants and wade without waders, but the choice is yours. On float trips, it’s possible to keep your feet virtually dry, but shoes that you don’t mind getting a little wet from splashing fish, wet banks or gravel bars, etc. are a good idea. But most importantly, bring a positive attitude of anticipation for the day ahead!
Where do we meet?
Likely, we’ll be meeting at a fishing access, but the exact location will depend on the trip you select and perhaps other logistics unique to the day we’re fishing. Please contact me and I can give you an estimate of what your drive time might be.
Will we be wading?
This is always an option if you are comfortable with it. Waders are not provided, please bring your own.
What’s type of boat will we be fishing from?
I own two models of rowable rafts (Flycraft). These boats are very safe and stable and permit up to two anglers to safely and comfortably stand will fishing and floating down the river. The floor is inflated to high pressure and is a rigid platform for standing. Each boat has five separate air chambers for reliability and safety.
What type of fishing will we do?
Obviously, flyfishing. The specific techniques could include nymphing with strike indicators, nymphing via contact control (i.e. “euro nymphing), dry fly fishing, dry/dropper fishing or streamer fishing. Fish and angler preferences along with angler skill level will determine the best methods to use.
What type of experience do I need?
Anglers of all experience levels are welcome. Some experience with fly casting
definitely helps, but beginners can catch fish if they’re patient and open to some gentle coaching.
Will I have help with instruction during the trip?
My job is to help you have a safe and enjoyable trip and to do everything I can to help you be successful in catching fish on the day of our trip. Many anglers learn new techniques or tricks that they can then apply on their own in the future.
